Goodwill CMH’s Financial Opportunity Center in downtown Battle Creek is a place to get help with employment, household finances, and connections to community resources. You can begin by calling (269) 788-6500, extension 2032, to ask about services and arrange an initial screening.
You do not need to have every part of your plan figured out before you reach out. You might be looking for your first job, returning to work, trying to understand your bills, or unsure which community resource fits your situation. A conversation can help you decide where to start.
What can the Financial Opportunity Center help with?
Goodwill Industries of Central Michigan’s Heartland brings several kinds of support together through its Mission Services programs. Your next step depends on your goals and the services that fit your needs.
- Employment support: Explore job goals, work on a résumé or application, and prepare for interviews through Job Development.
- Financial coaching: Talk through a household budget, debt, credit, or savings goals with the Financial Counseling team.
- Family and community connections: Ask about Family Development and resources that may help with challenges affecting daily life.
Coaching starts with your priorities. For example, a work schedule and transportation plan may need to fit together. A household budget may need to account for income that changes from week to week. Tell the team which issue feels most urgent.
How do I get started?
- Contact the team. Call (269) 788-6500, extension 2032, or email battlecreekwfd@goodwillcmh.org.
- Explain what you would like help with. A simple starting point is, “I am looking for work,” or, “I would like help understanding my budget.”
- Ask about the first visit. Confirm appointment availability, any program requirements, and what information would be useful to bring.
Walk-in appointments are first come, first served. Calling ahead can help you plan your visit and confirm that the right person will be available.
What should I bring or think about beforehand?
Ask the team what applies to your appointment. Depending on your goals, it may help to have:
- A short list of the questions you want answered.
- A current résumé or notes about past jobs, volunteering, school, or caregiving experience.
- A job posting that interests you.
- Notes about income, bills, or financial goals if you are seeking financial coaching.
- Your schedule and any transportation or other access needs you would like to discuss.
If you do not have these materials, call anyway. The team can explain what is needed for your next step. Avoid sending Social Security numbers, account numbers, or other sensitive documents in an initial email.
